Welcome and Introduction

This blog is being created as a response to the increasing complaints surfacing around midwife Paula Schnebelt. We would prefer to keep any and all posts anonymous to keep the privacy of those that have been negatively effected by her care and management. Because of the untimely manner that the medical board of California deals with complaints and/or issues that arise with licensed midwives in the state, I felt that something needed to be done to make the public aware of the facts so that expectant families looking for a midwife in the area would have access to ALL the information about her. The medical board will only post information publicly after a decision or judgement has been reached regarding a specific licensed individual. Unfortunately, this can take months or even years before a decision is made to revoke a person's license and post notice to the public of the action taken. Because of the slow process, the public needs to be made aware of all the facts so they can make their own decisions about who to trust with their care.

We recommend that if you are looking for a homebirth midwife that you do as much research as you can into her training, education, and experience. Don't be afraid to ask for references and to call them yourself. Homebirth is safe for 90% of birthing mothers and should be protected as a viable option for low-risk women who decide to give birth in their homes. They should be able to trust the person that they hire to watchfully deliver their babies and not worry that she is misrepresenting herself.

I am asking that those of you out there who have delivered at home with Paula and have had an unsatisfactory experience with her, for any reason, to please send me an email describing your experience, your expectations, and how you were disappointed with your care. You are not asked to give your name and your personal information and email will NOT be shared on the blog posts. We hope to protect those who decide to share their story with the people and thank you in advance for your truths and bravery in coming forward with them.

Who am I? I am simply an individual who is concerned that a midwife is making a bad name for midwifery in her area on account of her own lack of proper education, knowledge, understanding, and competency. I desire to see her license revoked until such a time that she can demonstrate a complete understanding and competency for matters pertaining to midwifery care of mothers and babies. I desire to increase the public's trust of midwives again by calling to account someone who is not demonstrating herself to be trustworthy.
